If you are traveling around Laholm, Mellbystrand and visiting the north-west coasts of Skåne, Båstad is also worth stopping by. I associate this town with seaside tourist spots from Italy or Croatia, also because of the picturesque marina and the restaurants located over it.
One of the restaurants that is located there is The Boathouse. We visited it twice – once the two of us, on the occasion of my birthday. The second time we took my parents for dinner.
The location of The Boathouse
The restaurant is large and located right next to the main car park in the port. It has a relatively large garden with an outdoor bar. There is a wonderful view of the sea and moored boats. What is very important to us – it is a dog-friendly place. We stayed there twice with Homer. He always received a bowl of cold water with ice (in the hottest weather that summer).
Menu and prices
It’s not the cheapest restaurant in Sweden, but it’s not the highest price either. Considering the views, location and quality of products, I would say that the prices are adequate to the quality received.
The menu is seasonal – it revolves around products that are available at a given time of the year. During our visits, the main stars were was asparagus, at the moment the menu has changed to typically autumn and chanterelles are in the lead.
- Cesar salad with chicken – 180 SEK
- Boathouse Burger – 190 SEK
- Pizza Classic – 130 SEK
The taste and quality of the food
The fact that we liked the food very much is evidenced primarily by the fact that we decided to visit it a second time and in a larger group.
Tomek is a big fan of pizza, so he ordered Classic pizza twice. He highly praised the thin crust which was crispy and well baked. The ingredients are fresh and tasty, which is the main success of this dish.
I had the Caesar salad twice. The chicken was exceptionally juicy, prepared to the point, and the bacon was crispy (my tummy growled just remembering it). The lettuce was mixed with vinaigrette so it wasn’t dry. In addition, the salad included traditional anchovis sauce.
My dad tried the Boathouse burger, which comes with thick fries and sauce. It’s a very classic burger, but the beef is cooked properly to the point (we asked for medium rare and we got it). It is worth mentioning that the rolls are home-made, and the restaurant’s logo is burned on the upper half, which is very impressive.
The star of the second visit was definitely my mother. She was tempted by a platter of mussels in wine sauce and thick fries. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the price – of course it was the most expensive item we ordered, but cheaper than you’d expect given the size of the portions and the freshness of the mussels. We found out that the shells come from Göteborg, so it is a local product. We agreed that it was also the tastiest part of that dinner.
Summary
We will definitely be visiting The Boathouse when we are around. The seasonality of the menu definitely encourages you to visit again. It is also a proven place that we can visit with our dog – we often visit Sweden with him and it happens that finding a place for dinner is difficult. If you like simple dishes, prepared with an idea and fresh ingredients, eaten in beautiful circumstances, this place is definitely for you.
