Malmö is the third biggest city in Sweden, however, compared to other European countries, it may seem small. It doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do here. Check 5 things you can do in Malmö during summer.
Cycle around Malmö
You don’t need to have your bike. Malmö has a city bike system “Malmö by bike” with densely distributed stations where you can rent a bike and cycle all over the city. To create an account, you don’t need a personnummer or even a Swedish address. The subscription is so affordable. The whole year costs 250SEK and allows you unlimited rental as long as you switch the bike every hour.
Rent a kayak or pedalo
Malmö is a fantastic place for any water activities, including kayaking or taking a pedalo trip at the canals in the city centre. You can see Malmö from a completely different perspective, spend some time outdoors, catch the sun and have fun alone or with your friends. Pedalo can be rented in rentals located nearby canals. For kayaking and SUP, the most convenient is Kayakomat where a single kayak starts from 298SEK/h, a tandem kayak from 349SEK/h and SUP 149SEK/h.
Attend an event at Malmö Sommarscen
Six weeks during the summer holidays Malmö Sommarscen takes place. All events are completely free, you can attend concerts, dance shows, circus shows, comedy and stand-up or exhibitions. Just check out the programme and choose the events that interest you the most. TIP: It’s best to use public transport to get to the place – parking spots are limited and may be quite busy, especially during the most popular events.
Enjoy the beach leisure
Malmö has a few beautiful beaches – the most popular leisure places at the sea are Ribersborgsstranden and Sibbarpsstranden. They are easy to reach both with public transport and Malmö city bikes, the water is crystal clear and quite shallow so it’s a safe and convenient place to swim a bit or cool down in the water. On both beaches, you can find small bars with fast food, snacks and ice cream.
Visit parks, and city gardens and make a barbecue
Malmö offers many outdoor areas to spend your time during summer, warm days. Including many parks, gardens and places for a barbecue (watch out – there may be a high risk of fires and having a barbecue in nature may be forbidden – check this map to find out more). I recommend visiting Pildammsparken with the rose gardens of Queen Silvia and Slottsparken where Malmö’s castle and museum are located.
