Due to the upcoming Valentine’s Day, we started to look for nice staycation options for couples in Malmö to test special offers in local hotels. That’s how we found Havshotellet – family business located nearby beach in Limhamn that offers attractive stay packages.

Our attention was grabbed by “Limhamnspaketet” so we reached out to the hotel and asked for possibilities to test their offer in person. This is how it went.

Limhamnspaketet at Havshotellet – what’s included?

Limhamnspaketet costs SEK 2795 for 2 people (or SEK 1995 for 1 person) and includes:

  • One night stay for two people in one of unique room.
  • 3-dish menu at the nearby restaurant Vessel (appetizer, main course and dessert) with one chosen drink (beer, glass of wine or chosen soft drink).
  • Breakfast buffet in the morning.
  • Optionally: Welcome bottle of eco Prosecco for SEK 295 (regular price SEK 495).

Havshotellet – Location and Parking

The hotel is located in Limhamn – western district of Malmö located by the sea. From here you have an easy access to the beach, seaside walking promenade or Sibbarp Saltsjöbad sauna and Sibbarpstranden beach. In warmer months you can enjoy water sports and sun bathing at wide green areas.

If you come to the hotel by bus, you can use lines 4, 7, 9 and 49 that arrive to one of bus stops nearby (Malmö Limhamn Gamla Gatan, Malmö Valborgsgatan or Malmö Stranden).

For car users, Havshotellet prepared parking places at the entrance to the hotel. In case of all spots are taken, you can park by the street (Taxa E) and inform the hotel to pay for your parking by providing them your plate numbers. During our stay there was no problem with parking availability.

Unique rooms at Havshotellet

Havshotellet is a boutique hotel with 21 unique rooms. What does it exactly mean? Design of each room is inspired by different famous ship (yes, you can find one inspired by Titanic).

Seawise Giant Ship

We stayed at Seawise Giant – the room inspired by the longest self-propelled ship in history. It was completed at 1979 and retired in 2009 to be eventually scrapped in 2010.

The next day we asked for access to a few other available rooms to see the design and make some photos for you. We had a chance to see rooms inspired by MSC Oscar, Harmony of the Seas, American Queen.

Each room is equipped with towels, shampoo and shower gel, earplugs, water, small fridge and coffee corner with coffee/tea options and candies. There’s fast wi-fi connection available however the pairing of TV with mobile devices doesn’t work that well – the Internet speed during this pairing is too low to play seamlessly YouTube videos.

The hotel is pet-friendly. Feel free to travel with your pets but be sure to mention that while booking – additional charges may apply according to Booking.com.

Dinner at the Vessel restaurant

During check-in, we got booked for our dinner at the Vessel restaurant which is located in the same building, just around the corner. I’ve seen this place earlier during summer, but never had a chance to try their food so I was very excited on that visit.

We could choose one appetizer, main course, dessert and drink each, so we decided to order different options to try a much flavors as possible during that one visit. While introducing all dishes I’ll give you regular prices but remember they were all included in our stay package.

Starters

For starters I ordered beef tartare – finely hand-cut Swedish sirloin steak with, among other things, Dijon mayonnaise, Parmesan, capers & kale crisps (SEK 159). It was completely different version of tartare than I’m used to and I’d order it one more time. The meat was delicate, flavours well-balanced.

Tomas chose burrata with fried piccolini tomatoes, fennel, chili, garlic & butter-fried sourdough bread (SEK 149). It gave a real Mediterranean vibe and as far as I’m personally not a huge fan of burrata (in fact until now I had just one dish where I liked it), this one may become my favourite.

Main course

As a main course, I went with veal cuvette – tender delicacy on veal with butter-tossed boiled potatoes, parsnip puree, pickled radish, endive, vinegar-glazed pearl onions, spring onions & white wine reduction (SEK 285). The meet was indeed tender and melted in my mouth. Parsnip puree balanced other flavours with a bit of sweetness.

Tomas is a huge fan of fish so he ordered oven-baked mountain trout with pickled lemon, fennel, boiled potatoes, chervil, herbal oil, trout roe & luxurious Prosecco sauce (SEK 295). The sauce was definitely one of the strongest point, giving the whole dish a little bit of “kick”. Trout wasn’t dry and all, what’s most important, wasn’t overwhelmed by other ingredients on the plate.

Dessert

When I asked you on Instagram, what do you think – who ordered meringue – majority answered it was me. In fact, I don’t particularly like it so meringue with sea buckthorn cream, lemon curd & marinated sea buckthorn (SEK 115) was Tomas’ choice. Sweet and sour flavours were balanced perfectly so after trying one bite I could say this is that meringue I wouldn’t be upset to eat. Tomas’, as meringue-eater, was disappointed he finished it so quickly.

I am more chocolate person so I had to choose vegan chocolate brownie with raspberry sorbet and berries (SEK 95). Both sorbet and brownie were delicious, I’m just not fully convinced to that connection – maybe sour, warm raspberry sauce would complement the texture of the brownie slightly better. This is something I thought of later though, while eating everything matched well for me.

YouBed beds at Havshotellet

One of the distinguishing features of this hotel are the YouBed beds in every room. They allow you to adjust the softness of the mattress according to your preferences. If you want, you can adjust only one of comfort zones – shoulders or hips – or set the same values for both zones at once.

Adjustment can be done using convenient remote controller placed on your bedside table. This made us really happy – we are in a never-ending spiral of sleepless nights, our mattress is begging for being changed we just can’t decide which will be the best for us: harder of softer. We noc only had the first good night for a long time but also we have now a better idea which mattress should we choose to our own bedroom.

One disadvantage – my husband as a huge tech-freak spent definitely too much time playing with the controller.

Breakfast at Havshotellet

Breakfast is served in a cozy space in form of a buffet. We didn’t show up on breakfast very early, it was slightly after 9:00 (breakfast was served until 10 a.m.) and we were afraid that we may have limited choice – this happened to us before. However, the staff was constantly making sure nothing’s missing and were refilling empty plates and containers.

You can choose from diferent options: yoghurt/milk with cereals, oats and other toppings, hard/soft boiled eggs, different kinds of bread and rolls with toppings (ham, cheese, cottage cheese, shrimp salad, smoked salmon), pickles and fresh vegetables. If you want something warm, choose between traditional Swedish köttbullar (meatballs) or bacon. There was also a note that it’s possible to ask staff for pancakes. Obviously, there were also typical for Sweden caviar paste and cheese in tubes.

To drink choose between hot and cold drinks – tee, coffee, orange/apple juice or water.

What to do during your romantic stay at Havshotellet?

Your check-in takes place after 15:00 and you’ll probably choose to book your dinner somewhere between 18:30 and 19:00. The time between is just perfect to make yourself comfortable in your room and go out for a walk.

Choose the way through Strandgatan towards Sibbarps strand. This short walk should take you around 20 minutes. Feel free to spend some time in the nature on the beach or choose the authentic sauna experience at Sibbarps Saltsjöbad.

One time entrance costs SEK 85, you can also rent the towels (sitting towel SEK 10, hand towel SEK 55). There’s also small cafe inside where you can enjoy fika and snacks (but remember, you have a dinner to attend so don’t buy there too much!).

The next day you have to check-out until 11:00 so this gives you time to get ready, pack your things and eat your breakfast. After leaving the hotel, you can choose a walk in the opposite direction than yesterday – towards Ribersborgsstranden. It’ll take around 50 minutes. Feel free also to go to Malmö’s city centre and explore the charming streets of Gamla Staden.

Summary

If you’re looking for an unique experience with extraordinary view on one of the most famous bridges in Europe, you’ll enjoy your stay at Havshotellet.
