There was a moment when I considered studies and higher education to be an absolute “must-have”. Those times, however, are long gone and I am repeatedly convinced that studies offer a lot, but do not determine anything.

Contents
  • I know what I don’t want
  • I care only about the result
  • I’m better organized
  • I have an open mind
  • I’m not afraid of change

Many professions did not exist until a few years ago. Social media managers, social media advertising specialists, influence marketers… They learned almost everything on their own. In fact, I am an example of a person who learns where and when I can, but the field of study was significantly different from my job. That’s why I don’t think studies are absolutely necessary in every case. Nevertheless, they have their advantages. What things did I take from the university, although I did not plan it at all, and yet I use it in my company?

I know what I don’t want

My studies (both biotechnology, which I dropped out, and food safety, which I graduated from) made me realize what I don’t want to do in life. And this is a very valuable lesson, because if you don’t do it, it’s easy to fall into the trap and make yourself unhappy for part of your life (if not all of it).

Obtaining higher education confronts our idea of the profession we want to pursue with reality and sometimes quite brutally verifies it. I couldn’t work on the same problem every day, tapping on the same computer, with another copy of the same documentation, and that would probably happen if I stayed in “my” industry.

5 ways to earn extra money in 2022

I care only about the result

Lectures were optional (or they were mandatory, but there were no consequences for absences), which was a nice change from school for me. I’ve always thought sitting X hours just to sit was unnecessary. Ineffective, pointless – I could cut the time needed for specific activities (or processing a specific material) by half.

The studies finally allowed me to account for the effects with impunity and I liked this model very much. This is how I bill both myself and my co-workers. I set specific tasks to be done in a specific period of time (day/week/month) and I don’t care how long it takes someone. Five minutes, ten, two days?

The introduction of such a model leads us smoothly to the next point, because all the time I was striving to shorten the time needed to perform duties in order to find time for my own affairs.

I’m better organized

Planners are my friends. Not only because I’m a stationery freak, I love notebooks, calendars, beautiful covers and colorful pens. In addition to the fact that I collect and own all this, I use them regularly.

Every day I prepare a list of tasks for the next day. I tick off each point after completing it, and the unmarked points migrate to the next day (or I resign if I think that a given activity was unnecessary).

I approach the tasks assigned to my co-workers in the same way. I prepare a list of things to be done in Asana with a specific deadline (earlier, of course – at least as much as possible), prioritize and check if the tasks have been “checked” on time.

I have an open mind

I always liked to learn, but not always what I had to. I didn’t like school lessons, but I spent long hours browsing the web and learning new skills. In elementary school, I wrote my first HTML pages, and in middle school I jumped to a higher level and started my adventure with CMS and PHP basics (I still have these to this day, I plan to develop it).

During my studies, I could legally broaden my horizons in the field I chose. Although it was not supposed to be my profession, I chose the field that interested me so that the acquisition of knowledge was not a chore. And I still think that the topics discussed in some way fascinated me – they could not just be my way of life. But not every thing we learn must be.

I’m not crossing out any options or solutions, and that brings us to the next point.

I’m not afraid of change

The first big change is the decision that I want to apply for medical studies and changing the profile of my high school class. The second – giving up medicine in favor of biotechnology. I admitted to myself that I did not want to sacrifice my (then well and thriving) YouTube channel. I liked having it.

When it turned out that biotechnology is not for me, I also changed my direction without hesitation. For cosmetology – to have better facilities to run a blog and YouTube channel. Here, however, it turned out for the second time that studies would force me to say goodbye to my passion – I changed my major once again.

All these choices taught me flexibility and I made sure that each choice is good for a certain moment. However, none of them is permanent and when the context changes, new opportunities begin to appear on the horizon. I have no fear of grabbing them anymore. I always look into the future with courage – I just know that I will manage, although I don’t always know how.

Will studies guarantee success? Will they give you a job in which you will fulfill yourself and earn a lot of money? I do not know. Probably not. And that’s not their role either.

It’s just another chance you may or may not take. Either way, you’ll always get something out of this adventure. And I always say that it’s better to have one more experience than less. I encourage you to do this.

🎭 This week in Swedish theatre and musical theatre:

💖 Legally Blonde – The Musical has officially opened at Södra Teatern in Stockholm and we were there! A colourful, hilarious and brilliantly performed show, followed by the pinkest premiere party we’ve ever attended. And Samson, playing Rufus, completely stole our hearts! 🐶

🎬 Helen Sjöholm and Nils Reinholtz will lead Sunset Boulevard at Malmö Opera in 2027. The star-studded cast also includes Michael Jansson, Alexandra Fors and Gustav Allen Schriver, with Emma Bucht directing.

🌹 Evita is coming to Dalhalla in August 2027! Ola Salo stars as Che, Johannes Kuhnke as Juan Perón and rising star Amelie Lindström as Eva Perón, in a production blending 1940s Argentina with modern celebrity culture.

🎭 Albert Camus’ Caligula is getting a new production at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm. Directed by Viktor Tjerneld and starring Marcus Vögeli, the play explores absolute power, morality and what happens when both collide.

🚍 After sold-out performances in Gothenburg, Nadim is making history as part of Göteborgs Stadsteater’s first regional tour. The acclaimed play about Nadim Ghazale’s journey from refugee to Swedish police officer has also added three extra performances.

🎬 Leonardo DiCaprio just invested in a Swedish energy company and the business model is genuinely interesting.

Elvy, founded in Sweden in 2023, lets homeowners get solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps through a monthly subscription - no massive upfront installation bill. The idea: make home energy upgrades accessible to people who want them but can’t afford to drop a huge investment all at once💡

The company is growing fast:
→ 2024 revenue: 11.3 million kronor
→ 2025 revenue: multiplied by ten
→ 2026 forecast: between 400 and 500 million kronor 📈

DiCaprio’s investment is part of a 16 million kronor extension to an earlier funding round. Back in May, Elvy raised 70 million kronor from investors, including IKEA heir Mathias Kamprad. The exact amount DiCaprio put in hasn’t been disclosed.

💖 OH MY GOD, you guys! Stockholm has officially gone PINK! 🎀🎭

Yesterday we attended the premiere of Legally Blonde at Södra Teatern and honestly… WHAT A NIGHT! 😭💕

The dress code was all pink, and I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a single place in Stockholm with a higher concentration of pink outfits that evening 😂

🎀 Pink carpet
🍕 Pizza
🧁 Cupcakes
🥂 Bubbles
📸 Photo wall moments
🎭 And, most importantly, a fantastic musical!
And here’s what I especially LOVED:

Legally Blonde is performed entirely in SWEDISH! 🇸🇪

The translation is brilliant, with clever adaptations and references that make the story feel right at home in Sweden.
The cast? AMAZING.
The humour? Absolutely landed.

And the premiere audience? Fully understood the assignment 💅😂

I laughed so much, loved the energy and left the theatre with a huge smile.

A massive thank you for inviting us to the premiere! 🤍

And yes… I’m already thinking about when I can go back. 👀

Have you seen Legally Blonde on stage before? And would you watch it in Swedish? 🎭👇

🇸🇪 Sweden’s most important rivalry: Gothenburg vs Stockholm 😂

Forget politics. Forget football.
We have MUCH more serious matters to discuss.

🌊 West coast vs East coast
🦐 Seafood vs big-city glamour
🚋 Trams vs tunnelbana
😎 Göteborgshumor vs Stockholm attitude

And somehow, both sides are absolutely convinced they’re right 😭

As someone living in Gothenburg, I obviously have no bias whatsoever 👀

So… which side are YOU on? 🍿👇

🎭 This week in Swedish theatre and musical theatre:

⚔️ Spamalot has come to an abrupt end in Malmö. Following the bankruptcy of producer Julius Production AB, all remaining performances at Nöjesteatern have been cancelled. Many freelancers face unpaid wages, while ticket holders may struggle to get refunds.

🎭 Iggy Malmborg has been named the next Artistic Director of Folkteatern Göteborg, succeeding Frida Röhl after nearly 14 years. He officially takes over in January 2028.

🧙‍♀️ Wicked finally has a new premiere date! GöteborgsOperan has confirmed 3 December 2026, following delays with its new stage machinery. The changes also push 1984 and Julefrid? into 2028.

🎭 Har du sett Alice? had its world premiere at Kulturhuset Spira in Jönköping on 10 October. Starring Marie Robertson, the new Swedish drama explores identity, guilt and social expectations, inspired by Småland’s 19th-century famine years.

💕 Pride and Prejudice (Stolthet och fördom) is back at Göteborgs Stadsteater! We saw this production ourselves and absolutely recommend it. A beautiful, witty take on Jane Austen’s classic and there’s an English-subtitled performance on 5 November, making it accessible to even more theatre lovers!

Quite a dramatic week for Swedish theatre, in more ways than one 👀

🏆 Sweden has a new “best municipality to live in” and it’s right next to Göteborg.

Each year, Swedish magazine Fokus ranks all 290 Swedish municipalities on 33 different parameters - economy, jobs, income vs housing prices, safety, nature, services. The average score across Sweden is around 6/10.

This year’s winner: Härryda - a municipality just east of Göteborg, best known as home to Landvetter Airport. Scored 7.58. Last year it was in 27th place. A huge jump 📈

The mayor’s modest explanation: “we don’t have many areas where we’re really bad.”

The top 10 for 2026:
➡️ Härryda
➡️ Täby
➡️ Nacka
➡️ Lomma
➡️ Staffanstorp
➡️ Mölndal
➡️ Danderyd
➡️ Lidingö
➡️ Kävlinge
➡️ Knivsta

Last year’s winner Stockholm has dropped all the way to 44th, largely due to lower safety scores. 😳

So if you were curious where Swedes themselves say it’s best to live - it’s apparently a small place next to a big airport 🇸🇪

🎭 Two weeks since the Grease premiere in Gothenburg and somehow we still haven’t shared some of our favourite shots from that night! 📸✨

Looking through these photos again, I can almost feel that energy.
The music, the atmosphere, the excitement of premiere night… and most importantly, the pure joy of everyone on stage ❤️

Because one of the things I love most about live theatre is watching performers genuinely enjoy what they’re doing.
And trust me, you can SEE it.

For us at @marriedlenses, that’s also what makes theatre photography so special.
Trying to capture those little moments that last only a second, but tell an entire story.

So here’s a little throwback to a night full of music, laughter and some seriously infectious stage energy.
A huge thank you once again for having us at the premiere! 🤍

🎭 Last week in Swedish theatre and musical theatre:

🐶 UPDATE (error on slides) Legally Blonde – The Musical has finally found its four-legged stars! After this summer’s dog auditions, six dogs will alternate as Bruiser (Daisy, Flisan, Frasse, Hugo, Selma och Texas*) and three as Rufus (Coco, Annie, Samson*) when the musical opens at Södra Teatern in Stockholm on 16 October.

⚔️ Spamalot is back in Sweden with an updated production at Nöjesteatern in Malmö. Samuel Fröler leads as King Arthur alongside Kim Sulocki, Anders “Ankan” Johansson, Anki Albertsson and Morgan Alling in Monty Python’s gloriously ridiculous musical comedy.

🎭 After becoming a hit at Soppteatern, Claes och Andreas leker affär is moving to a bigger stage. Claes Eriksson and Andreas T Olsson’s revue reopens at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern’s Lilla scen on 17 October, with some new material added for the extended run.

🎓 Twelve emerging actors, twelve brand-new productions. Third-year acting students at Stockholm University of the Arts are presenting their own solo shows during Departure 2026, a completely free theatre festival running 10–17 October.

👶 And Göteborgs Stadsteater is trying something we love: theatre with babies. Parents can bring their little ones into the auditorium, move around, leave and return and nobody minds if the baby makes noise. The first Teater med bebis features En mycket liten människa on 13 October.
