🎓 Karolinska Institutet slips out of the global top 50.

In the World University Rankings 2026:
✅ KI drops 49→53 and lands for the first time outside top 50.
✅ 5 other Swedish universities fall or stay flat. Uppsala is no longer in the top 100.
✅ University of Copenhagen climbs 97→90. Several schools in Denmark, Finland and Norway move up.

The ranking is based largely on research and citation impact.

🧕 KD’s Ebba Busch proposes a total ban on burka and niqab in public places.

She tells she wants face-to-face interaction in everyday life — on the street, at the market, in the ICA store, or at the clinic.
“Burka doesn’t belong in Sweden. We don’t want to see burkas and niqabs in Swedish public life.”

What’s in the proposal:
✅ Part of KD’s work for “increased social cohesion” ahead of the party congress later this autumn.
✅ Goes further than earlier attempts focused on schools/workplaces or public employees (KD backed such a ban in 2019).
✅ So far, no legal support has existed for these bans 😮‍💨

🏫 Klippan considers body cameras for teachers.

After threats and violence at local schools, the majority (KD, M, VF) wants teachers to be allowed to use body cams, only during incidents.

Recordings wouldn’t roll all day. They’d be used if something happens, and could support contact with parents or police.

Principals would decide when to investigate and when footage can be used.

Decision day is Thursday. If it’s a yes, a legal review comes next.

Sweden, be honest 👌

If you could change ONE thing, what would it be?

No essays, no fence-sitting. One fix. Be specific. Be spicy. Be respectful. 🔥

Think: housing queues, opening hours, customer service, cashless life, winter lighting, train delays, bike lanes, school lunches, healthcare waits, Systembolaget rules… you tell me.

If you’re a non-EU national entering or leaving Schengen, you’ll be registered, fingerprinted and photographed.
Police expect queues, especially at Arlanda.

🇸🇪 Exempt: Swedish citizens, EU/Schengen citizens, and residence-permit/card holders in Sweden but you might still feel the impact from longer lines.

👧 Kids under 12: no fingerprints, but they’re registered.

✈️ We walked to the airport. On purpose.

People were surprised… but it’s really close.

We drifted past quiet neighborhoods, chatted with a few lovely locals, and even spotted Halloween window decorations already out (10/10, absolute bangers). Then Google Maps nudged us onto a bike path, which turned into a riverside walk and a super pretty forest section. Zero crowds, just good vibes.

It felt like a little adventure and also something we’ve literally never done before, because most airports are way too far to walk to. This one wasn’t. Weather was perfect, bags were light, and it was totally worth it.

CabinZero note: these backpacks were heroes. Comfy to carry and they fit the Wizz Air/Ryanair sizer perfectly for us.

📉 Housing update: Condo prices have slipped in most of Sweden since the 2021 peak.

→ Average change nationwide: −3%.
→ Covered: 179 municipalities with 30+ sales last year.
→ 125 municipalities are down, and in about 1 in 5 the drop is more than 10%.

🏙 Stockholm city is up +3.7%.

🏘 Surrounding areas show declines:
→ Haninge −11.2%,
→ Botkyrka −11.4%,
→ Upplands Väsby −12%

🏙 Mid-sized cities:
→ Jönköping −10.3%,
→ Linköping −12%,
→ Helsingborg −7.3%,
→ Örebro −9.7%,
→ Uppsala −6%.

🗣 Swedbank’s private economist Arturo Arques: long term matters. Aim for a 5–6 year horizon to lower the risk of losing money.

Example: Eskilstuna −15% since 2021, now back at 2018 levels. That can wipe out a down payment if you have to move.

POV: You just learned Philips was born in Eindhoven 😱

@philipsmuseum surprised me in the best way. It tells the city’s story through one brand. From the first light bulbs to design that shaped everyday life.

Then it flips to now. Real innovation. Clear looks at how Philips uses modern tech, including AI in healthcare and smart lighting. Not “ask everything to ChatGPT,” but hands-on demos of how tech actually helps people.

Big win: audioguides in multiple languages that add extra stories you will not find on the signs. That is rare and so worth it.

Mini guide:
✅ Best for: design lovers, curious minds, families
✅ Time needed: 90 to 150 minutes
✅ Tip: grab the audioguide and start downstairs, then go future-first

Full Eindhoven tips and our hotel review are on the blog. Link in bio.
