Swedish policy regarding alcohol is strict and there are no jokes.

You can purchase alcoholic beverages with more than 3,5% alcohol by volume only in dedicated liquor stores called Systembolaget. The minimum age to make a purchase there is 20.

The law is if you look younger than 25, you need to show your ID confirming the age. However, the perception of whether or not you look younger or older is relative so you often are asked for your ID even long after you’ve exceeded the age of 25.

Which can be either a compliment or annoying 😆

Mine started in 2011 - back then I started high school and… gaming YouTube channel in Poland. I was one of the first people recording Minecraft videos and… that’s how I’ve met my future husband. In Minecraft multiplayer.

He’s from Poland too but at that time he lived in Sweden with his family. I started visiting really often and fell in love with the country from the very first visit.

And although I knew even as a kid I want to move abroad one day, I’d never think I’d end up in Sweden instead of London or other place in the UK 😅

Prepare your ID card and say your prayers - because getting an appointment might take longer than a Swedish winter 🌨️

But hey, when it’s finally your turn, you’ll either hear: ✅ “It’s probably a virus – rest and drink water 💧” ✅ “Here’s a referral… expect a letter in 3 months 📬” ✅ “Do you even need that arm, though? Just take some Alvedon 💊”

But jokes aside - I don’t remember the last time I had such reach on Threads. I wrote: Unpopular opinion: I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Swedish healthcare.

And here comes the storm 😅

I repeat it and will continue to do so - there are no perfect systems and Instagram post is to short to fully describe my point of view but have a look at my comments there. It’s such interesting discussion 🥹

I collected this brochure from my postbox a few days ago and you can’t imagine how shocked I was when I saw articles in some important newsletters that Sweden (and Norway or Finland) are preparing for war.

Sorry, what? 😅

Timing may be a bit unfortunate, I agree but this kind of brochure is distributed from time to time to all Swedish houses to make sure all residents are aware what to do and how to prepare for crisis and other sudden events such as extreme weather conditions, epidemics, not just armed conflict.

And I know many people complain about advice like getting some rest, drinking more water or taking Alvedon if your fever gets too high but this is indeed the best method to deal with the common cold. The fact that Swedes seem to understand that makes the health care system more efficient and ready to take care of people who really need that help 💙💛
