🇸🇪 Swedish companies are still saying “no thanks” to new hires.

A fresh survey from Svenskt Näringsliv reveals that just 1 in 4 expect to grow their staff within a year while most think nothing will change, or that they’ll even have to cut.

💼 Why the hesitation?
👉 Economic slowdown
👉 Uncertainty around U.S. trade tariffs
👉 Low confidence overall

The numbers haven’t improved since Q1 and the investment climate isn’t looking much better either.

💰 But there’s a possible shift ahead: Riksbanken is expected to cut interest rates next week, with another cut after summer.

🇸🇪 Glad Nationaldag, Sverige!

Do we have any new Swedish citizens here?

Because it is also your day!

Why do Swedes celebrate June 6?

Because on this day in 1523, Gustav Vasa became king, ending the Kalmar Union.

And in 1809, a new constitution changed how Sweden was governed.

But Nationaldagen hasn’t always been a big deal.

📅 It only became a public holiday in 2005, replacing Whit Monday

💸 A Swedish businessman paid 125% tax.

After a long legal fight, a court ruled that the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) must pay him back over 13 million SEK.

But instead of following the decision…
Skatteverket refused.

Now, Kronofogden is demanding money from the state itself.

🕵️‍♂️ And it gets worse:
89 Skatteverket employees accessed his private records without reason.
There’s now a criminal investigation into data breach and misconduct.

Legal experts call this case “exceptional.”
Because when a government agency ignores a court order - who holds them accountable?

I got stuck on a quest in Oblivion back in 2011… so I looked up a gameplay video and realized - wait, people record themselves playing games?! 😮 I figured I could do that too.

That moment led to launching my YouTube channel, becoming one of the first Minecraft creators in Poland, and meeting a fellow gamer who lived in Sweden.

We were both successful YouTubers from 2011 to 2014 - what a wild ride.

Now, years later, I live in Sweden with him as my husband, and I get to do what I love: creating content about a country I’ve truly fallen for, helping others move here, travel here, and fall in love with it too. 💙🇸🇪

The butterfly effect is real 🥹

Confused about glass bottle deposits in Sweden? 🧃🍾
Here’s a quick follow up to yesterday’s news!

Here’s what you need to know:
🔁 Yes, return system exists but only for certain bottles
🍺 Mostly applies to beer/cider at Systembolaget (about 60 products)
⬇️ Return rates were low - that’s why the deposit just increased
🧃 Most glass bottles (like juice or wine) = not returnable, just recycle ♻️
📦 Crate deposits exist but are rare here - more common in Denmark 🇩🇰

Swedes are pretty hardcore when it comes to recycling 🫧

But when it comes to glass bottles? Not so much. 😅

Turns out, most people don’t even know that reusable glass bottles are still a thing and that you can return them for money. 💸

That’s why from June 1, Sweden is TRIPLING the deposit on reusable glass bottles to 3 kronor per bottle🧴↩️

Why the change?

👉 Because only 15% of glass bottles sold at Systembolaget or grocery stores actually get returned.

Even though they can be reused almost forever if returned.

You won’t find a fancy machine for them - you just hand them over at the regular checkout at Systembolaget (or at about 1,200 grocery stores around Sweden).

So if you’ve got glass bottles at home that say “returglas”…

Bring them back and cash in ♻️💰
