🏚️ Hyresrätt? More like hyres-stress 😅

“You don’t worry about anything until you do.” That pretty much sums up my parents’ first weekend in their new rental in Sweden.

They moved in Friday. By Saturday, we’d discovered: 🔧 A hole in the bedroom door, 🕳️ Dozens of wall plugs and screws still in place, 🎨 A rainbow of mismatched paint, 🦠 And something that might be mold in the bathroom.

And no, it’s not like we didn’t see the apartment before. 
There was a visning two months ago and we were reassured that painting and cleaning would be done before moving in.
 Fast forward to now: not only painting is it still not done, but we’re also told it may not be done in all rooms.
 And as for the rest? Most of the real issues - like smells, missing sealants, and uncleanable appliances - weren’t even possible to assess before the promised final move-out cleaning.
 So much for “what you see is what you get.”

When we contacted the landlord, some things were accepted for repair - like the broken light or the loose cabinet.
 But other responses? 🧽 “Just a cleaning issue.” 👃 “The fridge smells like smoke? Try again.” 🚪 “The hole in the door? That’s normal wear and tear.”

Spoiler: it’s not.

And while the case is still ongoing, we’re now looking into our rights with Hyresgästföreningen - because honestly, this isn’t about luxury, it’s about basic living standards.

🏠 Renting in Sweden can be amazing. But also? You really don’t know what you’re getting - no matter how nice the visning seemed.

🎉 Same night out, very different outcome

A hidden camera test in Stockholm just exposed what many suspected: your skin color might decide whether you get into the club or not.

🔍 3 Black guys, 3 white guys - dressed the same, none on the guest list.
 🍻 The white group had drinks. The Black group didn’t - to avoid excuses.

👀 Result? White guys got in at 7 of 8 clubs. Black guys? Only one.

One bouncer said: “We just follow orders.”
 Club owners are now under pressure to explain - or change.

The ROT avdrag is a tax discount for repairs and renovations using licensed contractors - and it’s meant to boost the economy and save jobs in the construction sector.

But not everyone’s thrilled: critics say it mainly benefits wealthier homeowners and leaves out new housing needs.

Still, after years of downturn, the change is a welcome comeback for many small builders.

Since 2022 it has been harder to get your first BankID. Why? Because bank account is not enough anymore to get it. Now you need to present a document with NFC layer - Swedish passport or national ID which are available only for citizens.

The rest? Well, they need to go to the bank in person to verify their ID.

Times when opening bank account with ICA Banken which is the only bank who just accepts you as you are 😂 was enough - they ended.

Now you need a lot of patience and luck. Or just know the hidden secret branch of the bank that will agree to open bank account during drop in, on the same day (or at least same week 🤷‍♀️).

Don’t be surprised if they tell you to come in 6 months 👌🤣 Good luck! ❤️

Perfect getaway from Göteborg, for a day or longer (believe me, one day is not enough). Beautiful trails, amazing views, incredible peace.

From Göteborg you can get there easily with public transport - for example with Red bus line to ferry terminal in Lilla Varholmen where you can catch a free ferry straight to the island.

I fell in love with this place on our day one and can’t get enough of it 🥰
