🇸🇪 Can ice cream replace a kanelbulle? 👀🍦

A potentially dangerous question to ask one day before Kanelbullens dag… but IKEA decided we needed answers 😂

They’ve launched kanelbulle-flavoured soft serve for just 9 SEK, so obviously I had to investigate.

You can find it at IKEA stores across Sweden, except Gävle and Borlänge.

But tomorrow is still Kanelbullens dag, so let’s be reasonable here:
Why choose between them when you can have both? 🫡🇸🇪

Now tell me, have you already tried IKEA’s kanelbulle ice cream? And does it get your approval? 👀

1️⃣ Save this for your next IKEA trip
2️⃣ Send it to someone who takes kanelbullar VERY seriously 😂

🇸🇪 Which stage of moving to Sweden are you currently in? 😂

Moving to another country really does come in stages:
✨ OMG I actually did it! New country, new life, everything is exciting.
🇸🇪 Wait… I understand absolutely NOTHING.
📄 Why does this simple administrative task require 17 steps and three months?
🫠 Was moving here actually a terrible idea?
😌 Oh. Wait. This is just… home now.

And I think most of us move between these stages more than once.

You can love Sweden and still complain about something that makes absolutely no sense.
You can feel at home here and still miss things from somewhere else.
You can be grateful for your life AND get personally offended by Swedish bureaucracy on a Tuesday morning 😂

Eventually, you stop comparing every little thing and just build a life that works for you.

And somewhere along the way, Sweden stops feeling like the country you moved to and starts feeling like home 🤍🇸🇪

So… which stage are YOU currently in? 👀

1️⃣ Save this for your next “why did I move here?” moment 😂
2️⃣ Send it to someone building their life in Sweden

🍦 IKEA is launching a soft-serve ice cream that tastes like a Swedish cinnamon bun. It costs about 80 eurocents.

Two things have been sacred at IKEA in Sweden for decades - the soft-serve ice cream and the kanelbulle (cinnamon bun). Both cost pocket change. The kanelbulle has actually been on the menu since the early 1960s.

Now IKEA Sweden is combining them. Starting September 29th, you can grab a cinnamon bun-flavoured soft-serve at every IKEA bistro in Sweden - except Borlänge and Gävle. Nine kronor 🍯

The timing is on purpose. October 4th is Kanelbullens dag - Cinnamon Bun Day - basically a national excuse to eat cinnamon buns. IKEA is jumping in early. 🇸🇪

Would you try it? 👀 Should I try it on video? 🤔

📚 We thought one day at Bokmässan would be enough.

We went on Saturday, saw approximately 2% of everything happening… and came back on Sunday for almost the entire day.

Because Bokmässan is technically a book fair, but in reality it’s more like:
📚 dangerously good book deals
🎤 talks & discussions about EVERYTHING
🎲 board games
🧶 crafts
🍯 local products
🦭 and apparently… smoked seal meat

Yes. We tried it.
My review: smoked mackerel flavour + chicken liver texture.
Tomas’ review: “wet basement.”
I think we can end the culinary journalism there 😭

The talks were probably my favourite part. There were literally thousands of programme points, so you could jump from culture to politics, society, history, literature and completely random topics all day.

My only wish for next year? Longer talks! So many were only around 15 minutes, and just when the conversation started getting interesting… thank you, goodbye 🥲

Give me at least 30-45 minutes and fewer programme points ANY day.

But considering we planned one day, accidentally did two and still didn’t see everything…
yeah, we’re definitely coming back next year 😂📚

Have you ever been to Bokmässan? And what was YOUR favourite part? 👀

📚 Bokmässan damage report: financial responsibility was nowhere to be found 😭🇸🇪

Did I spend more than I planned?
Yes.

Did I spend more than I probably should have?
Also yes.

Do I regret the books?
Absolutely not. We’ll discuss the bank account separately. 😂

Here’s what came home with me:
📚 @adlibrisgbg @adlibris.com 5 for 200 SEK
- Framtidslöftet: historien om hur internet förändrade Sverige — Urban Lindstedt
- Melodifestivalen: från frack till folkfest — Hanna Fahl
- A Day in the Life of Sweden — Petter Karlsson
- Det goda Malmö — Martin Andersson
- Ryska krigsfiaskon — Anders Frankson

✍️ 299 SEK
- Jag är Carola: Del 1. Frigörelsen — @carolaofficiell & Desirée Stattin Drakenberg AND signed by Carola ❤️

🏛️ 50 SEK
- Göteborgs kvinnor i politiken — Ann-Sofie Mellqvist

📖 Bookmark Förlag — 3 for 2
- Pappa eller pastor — @wijking & Andreas Wijk…and they both signed it for me 🥹❤️
- Döda kvinnor förlåter inte — Katarina Wennstam
- Project Hail Mary — Andy Weir

📚 Book set — 129 SEK
- Eldsjäl
- Klein
— Axel Åhman

…and two jars of Latvian honey 120 SEK each (1kg) 🤣

So basically I went to Bokmässan and accidentally created my reading schedule for the foreseeable future. 😂

I love that this haul is such a random mix of Swedish society, Göteborg, Malmö, Melodifestivalen, memoirs, crime, religion and… space.

Now comes the difficult part:
Which one do I read FIRST? 👀

🎭 Last week in Swedish theatre and musical theatre

⚡ Grease The Musical has officially opened at Rondo in Gothenburg and we were there! We absolutely loved this joyful, energetic production, from the fantastic choreography and iconic hits to the clever multimedia and brilliant physical set design. We’re definitely going back.

❤️ Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar has made its world premiere as a brand-new musical at Göta Lejon. Jonas Gardell and Fredrik Kempe have transformed the acclaimed story into its first-ever stage adaptation, starring Ola Salo, Valdemar Wahlbeck and Martin Stokke Mathiesen.

🪞 Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (Trettondagsafton) has opened at Göteborgs Stadsteater. We saw the final dress rehearsal and were particularly blown away by the rotating set design, lighting and musical touches, genuinely masterful work.

☔ GöteborgsOperan has revealed the cast of its biggest-ever Swedish production of Singin’ in the Rain. Denny Lekström, Emma Kumlien and Robert Sillberg lead the 35-person cast, with Vanna Rosenberg as Lina Lamont and Edward af Sillén directing.

🎶 Viktor Norén and Linus Wahlgren are currently touring Sweden with Våra liv, våra musikaler, using Broadway, West End and Swedish musical favourites to tell stories from their own lives and careers on stage.

Two premieres we experienced ourselves, a brand-new Swedish musical and one HUGE cast reveal - not a bad week at all 👀

🛡️ Sweden is running overnight tests in its bomb shelters - with real families, teenagers, pensioners, a man in a wheelchair, and a five-month-old baby.

Sweden has around 65,000 civilian bomb shelters, more per capita than almost anywhere in the world. But most haven`t been actively used in decades. Now, with civil defence back in the spotlight, authorities want to know if they actually work in real conditions.

Västerås ran the first "vistelseprov" (stay test) last autumn - 30 people, 22 square metres, one full day. First test of its kind in Sweden since the 1990s.

Now Karlstad, Kristianstad and Gothenburg are lining up their own. And the small town of Grums is doing something no Swedish town has done before - a 12-hour overnight test at the end of September.

40 participants. No electricity. No working lifts. Teams rotating through the night to manually operate the ventilation 🌙

The civil defence agency`s biggest takeaway so far: the shelter working technically isn`t enough. The real question is whether people can bear to stay in one, possibly for years, if it ever came to that. A concrete box with grey walls, they say, needs to feel human.

🎭⚡ Grease has officially arrived in Gothenburg!

And what a premiere night that was 🥹

We got fully into the theme: the Grease menu at MAX, bubbles at Rondo and finally walking into a theatre that looked COMPLETELY different from the Moulin Rouge era… the whole evening was such a vibe.

And then the show started.

The energy was incredible, the audience was READY, the set looked amazing and… this is just such a FUN musical 🎶❤️
One of those shows where you leave the theatre still smiling and with all the songs songs stuck in your head 😂

A huge thank you for inviting us to the premiere , we had the best time! 🤍
And judging by the conversation we had immediately afterwards…

This definitely wasn’t our last Grease night 👀
Already looking forward to seeing it again!

Have you seen Grease on stage before or is it still on your list? 🎭👇
