I’ve been living in Sweden since 2021 but my love for this country lasts for much longer. It all started in 2012 when I visited my future husband for the first time 🥰

🔴 Fössta Tossdan i Mass 🥳

As I am a former Småland-resident, “First Thurdsay in March” will forever take an important place in my heart 💙💛

It’s an unofficial holiday for the dialects of Småland that has been celebrated since 2010. The day was chosen because it contains many “R”s, which makes the phrase particularly distinctive in several Småland dialects. It is also called Småland’s national day 😎

The phenomenon was founded by Jonas Svenningson and his sister, whose aunt had said “fössta mass” in a broad dialect. They further developed this with “tossdan” so that it became “fössta tossdan i mass”.

I was even more surprised, seeing announcements of it here, in Göteborg, when I was testing semlor (full video available on my YouTube). Fössta Tossdan i Mass wasn’t a thing at all in Skåne while I was living there but maybe this appearance in Göteborg makes more sense? 😅

🔴 Fössta Tossdan i Mass 🥳

This is definitely a spot we’re saving for the future - more coming very soon on the blog.

Charming apartment in the heart of Paris, within walking distance to all major attractions. Thanks to that, we’ve used metro just twice (to get to and back Dome de Paris where we’ve seen Moliere Le Spectacle Musical show, not counting travel from and to the airport).

Kitchenette available if you want to prepare some food but the neighborhood is just full of amazing restaurants, bistros and cafes so despite we planned initially to have breakfast at home, we quickly gave up on this idea.

One more thing - beds are super comfy. I’ve never had such a good sleep in my life 🥹

🇫🇷 Swedes could never 🫣

Yesterday I’ve shared some funny stories we’ve experienced during our short visit in Paris:

❌ Queueing to recommended restaurant? We’re speaking English but get only French in return.
❌ Stuck in metro gates? Customer Service speaks only French and hangs up on me.
❌ Security check at the airport? The officer speaks just French and continues even tho I repeat many times I have not idea what she’s saying 😆

What stands out is a contrast regarding the use of English in France and Sweden. Many foreigners are annoyed because Swedes often switch to English when they hear you’re not a native speaker (instantly if you’re struggling a bit). This would not happen in Paris 🤣 People would rather give you a long stare waiting for divine intervention to make you start speaking French than say anything to you in English. And they say, communication is about will not skill 😎

🔴 What candies you miss the most in Sweden 🇸🇪?

There are no other candies I miss more than Haribo berries and I can’t really buy them even in Poland anymore - they just disappeared from the stores and can be bought only in some shops with imported candies 😭

Red ones are the best - black ones are for others 😂
