🔴 Paris impressions 🇫🇷

This was our first time in Paris and the goal was one - to see Molière, l’Opéra Urbain - this is one of the best examples of #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt 😂

I saw clips on TT and decided I’ll be on the audience the next time they’re in Paris.

But flights made us stay a bit longer and explore. City is beautiful and charming, it was nice to be there but still London takes #1 place in my heart regarding European capital cities 🫶

🔴 Banks in Sweden are joke 😭

I usually don’t think about it that much… until I’m helping someone with opening first Swedish bank account 😂

In many banks there are no drop-ins. While scheduling appointment you may be told to wait somewhere between few weeks and few months.

But even drop-in doesn’t guarantee success. For example, yesterday at Swedbank we’ve heard the earliest date when it’s possible would be in July. Handelsbanken? A month. Länsförsäkringar? Few days but only in small branch far from us (with re-visit required). Seriously? 🙈

Background check - I get it. But this is not normal. Those laws are in the whole EU at least and in many countries opening bank account when you have all documents is a matter of 15-30 minutes. And that’s it!

And no, any online bank without physical branch is not an option because then as non-Swedish citizen you can’t get BankID. And that’s really a reason why we all want to have account in Swedish banks - let’s be honest. Without BankID we’d be all living our lives perfectly happy using Revolut or Wise 😆

Banking is not the worst in Sweden, I can name some countries that do it better tho. One of culture shocks was definitely the fact in many cases you just can’t enter bank and open bank account the same day, not to mention getting bankID.

You see, banks need reason to open your bank account. Obtaining BankID itself is not a valid reason. Everyday spendings or receiving salary is, of course. But you have to prove the source of all incoming money, often with tones of papers. Job contract makes it easy but if you newly came here (let’s say - with your life-savings) or are, God forbid, entrepreneur from abroad… I’m praying for you 😭 Been there, done that 😅

Banking is not the worst in Sweden, I can name some countries that do it better tho. One of culture shocks was definitely the fact in many cases you just can’t enter bank and open bank account the same day, not to mention getting bankID.

🔴 What is your biggest struggle with Swedish?

It fascinates me how our mother tongue affects our language skills development. For me, being Polish, it’s a challenge not to overcomplicate the language I’m using while speaking or writing Swedish.

I’m trying to find synonyms, some sophisticated vocabulary - all that to just find out at the end it was totally unnecessary but this is the way I know from Polish and my school experience where the longer paper or essay was the better (the content was a secondary matter).

This is not only not helping me to know the language better but also negatively influences my fluency 😭

Each day of sun is so precious during winter in Sweden, we just can’t miss it once they’re there. When sun is shining, we just can’t justify staying at home.
