📲 Swish did not get bought by PayPal. And no, they’re not becoming one company.

A lot of people understood it that way, but that’s not what this news means.
*tiny product placement at the end*

👉 What is happening?
PayPal is a payment gateway that brings together different payment methods under one system.
That means a webshop can integrate with PayPal once and then offer things like:
✅ cards
✅ Apple Pay
✅ Google Pay
✅ and now also Swish

👉 Why does this matter?
For online stores, this is mostly about convenience.
If a foreign webshop sells to Sweden, offering a familiar local payment method can make a big difference, especially if they also let people pay in SEK.

👉 Will prices go up because of this?
No. Transaction fees already exist in online shopping.
Stores already pay fees to payment providers like PayPal, Stripe, Klarna, and even business Swish.

👉 So should people boycott Swish if they boycott PayPal?
Not because of this news.
Swish is not becoming part of PayPal.
It’s just being added as one possible payment method in checkouts on some international websites

👉 Real-life example
I use a similar setup on likesweden.com, just with Stripe instead of PayPal.
Because I sell internationally in multiple currencies, it’s much easier for me to have one system that collects everything in one place. So someone can pay with Klarna in euro, Swish in SEK, BLIK in PLN, or Apple Pay in USD, and it all still lands in the same system on my side.

🍔 McDonald’s biggest burger ever just launched in Sweden… and the internet is roasting it.

The new Big Arch burger is meant to compete with the Big Mac and comes with 226 grams of beef.

But instead of the burger going viral… it was the CEO’s first bite 😅

🇸🇪 Sweden really said: if you want alcohol, you better plan your life properly

For anyone new here: Systembolaget is Sweden’s state-run alcohol store. It has the exclusive right to sell stronger alcohol for off-premise retail, and the whole idea is not to sell as much as possible, but to reduce alcohol-related harm and protect public health. That’s also why it doesn’t advertise the way normal retailers do.

Which means one very important cultural experience in Sweden is this:
realising it’s Saturday, checking the time, and suddenly moving like your entire weekend depends on it.

Many stores close around 15:00 on Saturdays and stay closed on Sundays, with some local variation. So yes, the last-minute Systembolaget sprint is basically a national sport.

If this melody sounds familiar, you’re not crazy! This track by Medina (from Melodifestivalen 2025) is a massive nod to a Swedish folk-pop classic.

Back in 2003, a group called Sarek released a song with the exact same title. It became a cultural staple in Sweden.

@medinasverige took that nostalgic, „Nordic folk” DNA and flipped it into a modern hit. It’s a brilliant tribute to that classic Swedish sound that makes you want to run through a forest (or a dancefloor) for someone you love 🥰

I had three candidates for episode one.
Two were completely unavailable in bookstores.

According to Goodreads… it might actually be decent.
